We have an opportunity for a small group of people to participate in an online focus group, which forms part of a research project Climate Resilience, Social Justice and COVID-19 Recovery in Preston funded by ESRC’s Place-Based Climate Action Network and conducted by researchers from the University of Central Lancashire.

“We’re interested in exploring and understanding how the pandemic has affected people’s lives in Preston. We also want to hear your thoughts and perspectives on recovery from COVID and what this might mean in terms of reimagining the future of your community and the city as a whole.”

This research is exploring how organisations and communities in Preston have experienced living with COVID-19 and examining whether recovery from the pandemic might offer opportunities to address climate change and other environmental and social concerns – with a view to capturing ideas for action that can help build a better future.

The focus group will take place on Wednesday 26 May from 1pm to 2pm via Microsoft teams. If you are interested in taking part, please call 0845 953 0213 or email get.involved@communitygateway.co.uk

You need to be a current tenant living in one of our properties and be aged 18 or over.

Can I still register if I have a paid job?

Of course, even if you work, you can still be a Gateway Central Member.

I don’t have any work experience.

No problem, you don’t need any prior skills or experience to be eligible to register.

I’m not very confident speaking in front of others so am a bit worried about registering.

Full training will be provided, and you are not required to speak at meetings, if you have something to say then great but we can get your feedback in writing or over the phone. Also, you’ll find that your confidence grows as we support you through each meeting.

Absolutely, and we’ll also happily provide you with a character reference to support any jobs you apply for. We’ll also support you with training through our Employment and Skills team if required.

  • Community Fund Panel

In response to the current crisis we have launched a COVID-19 fund element to our Community Fund – this allows groups to apply for funding up to £500 for projects which directly respond to the current crisis.

Are you passionate about your community? Do you want to help us build strong resilient communities which are great places to live? If so we are looking for tenants to join us on our Community Fund Panel.

The panel meets virtually every quarter as well as deciding resolutions online. Meetings generally take around 1 hour and members get to have a real insight into the activities that are taking place in our communities, whilst having the power to make decisions on where we invest our money.
