Purpose of Membership
Community Gateway Association (CGA) was the first housing association to be established using the Gateway Model. The Gateway Model gives our tenants the opportunity to become Members and places our tenants and communities at the heart of our organisation.
The Community Gateway Model aims to :
- Enable Members to influence the work we do and help us to decide our priorities, where we spend our money and how we deliver our services.
- Generate community pride and vision through providing opportunities for tenant and local community involvement in decision making. .
- Promote a culture that brings colleagues and tenants together, where tenants are involved in leading the organisation and work in partnership with CGA colleagues to provide good quality homes and neighbourhoods.
Join the people at the heart of our organisation.
As a member of CGA, you become a shareholder enabling you to vote on key decisions at our Annual General Meeting and have an influence in everything we do. This is the fundamental difference that sets us apart from nearly all other housing providers and something we are very proud of.
Becoming a Member gives you a real stake in the business and provides you with five key advantages that we like to call the Members VOICE.
- Voice (V) – talk to us about the things that matter to you.
- Opinion (O) – give your Opinion on important topics.
- Information (I) – Access important Information on everything we do.
- Community (C) – Be part of improving your Community.
- Engagement (E) – Engage with us in a way that suits you.
Having a say means you can help improve your home, your community and the homes and communities of others.

Here’s What Some of Our Tenant Members Have Said about Getting Involved
- To be a member is to have the key to empowerment, to have an input and influence the delivery of services that affect every tenant.
- I have become involved and find it rewarding in many respects. Along the way I have also gathered many friends who give their time to help us live in communities to be proud of.
- It may be Community Gateway’s house, but it is your home. By becoming an involved resident, you are able to influence decisions and policies regarding the management of your home.
CGA Membership – what’s the point?
Well to tell you the truth, we can only get better at what we do by listening to tenants and in order for us to listen to tenants, we need to make sure you are aware of the opportunities to be listened to.
Who Can Join?
You can become a Member if you are aged 18 or over and you are:
- A tenant or leaseholder of CGA i.e. named as a tenant on the tenancy agreement
- The spouse/partner/family member living within a CGA tenant as part of the household
Associate Membership
If you are not a tenant or leaseholder, but you live in the heart of one of our communities, you can become an Associate Member. This will allow you to get involved in consultations, but you will have no voting rights at our Annual General Meetings.
